20/05/03: Preparing the new Berita Sedimentologi (Sedimentology Newsletter)
FOSI is preparing to publish the 18th issue of Berita Sedimentologi. This issue will contain several papers on seismic interpretation and its application in sedimentology. Seismic data has been used as a key tool in oil and gas industry for the last 30 years. Advances in seismic acquisition & processing techniques together with geoscientific concepts resulted in a better way to extract stratigraphic information from seismic data and to predict the palaeo-depositional system. Three-dimensional (3-D) seismic data lies in the center of this stage of development.

In present days, seismic attributes extracted from a 3-D seismic cube are used both in exploration and development stages. In exploration stage, seismic attribute can be used to predict depositional elements such as channel and splays, meanwhile in field development stage these features can be used to find high porosity reservoirs. The internal character of seismic reflectors itself to some extent can be used to interpret the depositional processes of sediment packages. This particularly can be applied to deep-water deposits as done in Gulf of Mexico and North Sea Basins. As we all know, Gulf of Mexico and North Sea have been a place where 3-D seismic data is widely used to reduce risk in doing exploration and field development. Seismic sedimentology has also been applied in these two major hydrocarbon provinces by major oil companies. Therefore, having seen these success stories and realizing its future potential to advance further as a topic for scientific research, FOSI is pleased to choose this topic as the main issue for next Berita Sedimentologi. 19/05/03: New face and new server
FOSI finally launched its new website design and also decided to move its host from Sphosting to Indoglobal's server. The move was planned a couple months ago, since then FOSI's website maintainers started thinkig of the best web design for this website in the new server. A lot of time was spent on trying many things but it ended up with nothing because of too much ideas. Eventually, a decision must be taken and therefore we choose this design, the one you're browsing at the moment, to be FOSI's our new face in this virtual world. After moving all contents from old website in Sphosting, eliminating un-needed files and adding few things to the new website, then it was up-loaded into Indoglobal's server. In this server, FOSI got a subdomain under Indonesian Association of Geologists' (IAGI's) domain. Therefore now, FOSI also changed its URL into http://fosi.iagi.or.id. This is inline with the position of FOSI as a commission of IAGI and IAGI's own programme to provide subdomain name to its divisions/commissions.

To let you know one thing, Sphosting has provided good service to FOSI for free for a couple of years. We are sorry to have to move FOSI's server into a new host, however this is the best choice for FOSI because from now on, FOSI will clearly be seen under IAGI as the parent organization. (min)

30/10/02: Change in organization and new volunteers in the committee
Some changes have occurred in FOSI's organization. DR. Yahdi Zaim of ITB has completed his service as the Elected President of FOSI and now the person who will take this position is still is not available yet. In the Tour Lecture team, Aris Setiawan of ENI-Lasmo has moved abroad therefore his position in the committee will be taken by Ferry Bastaman Hakim of ENI-Lasmo, however Aris will still be involved in the committee to provide External Links together with Herman Darman of Brunei Shell Petroleum.

The Evening Talk programme will be managed by Deddy Aditya Sebayang of ENI-Lasmo and also Ika Dewi Kartika of bp. Meanwhile, the Open Discussion is led by Nila Murti of Premier Oil, Field Trip by Boy Wibowo Pangarso of ConocoPhillips and website will be maintained by Minarwan of Premier Oil and Sachrul Iswahyudi of Corelab. Lastly, the present editors of Berita Sedimentologi consist of Mohammad Syaiful (ENI-Lasmo), Boy W. Pangarso (ConocoPhillips), Herry Maulana (Unocal), Hasan Sidi (Jason Geosystems) and Herman Darman (Brunei Shell Petroleum). (min)
